Work Case Studies

40 Free Street

Located within the B-3 zone, Congress Street Historic District, Pedestrian Activities District, and the Downtown Entertainment Overlay zone, the design for this 6-story mixed use building will have 5 retail units and 51 residential units. The building itself emphasizes pedestrian access and activity at a street level, as well as deemphasizing vehicular access to the subsurface structured entrance. It will encourage a safe, pedestrian focused environment along what is currently underutilized space along Free Street, while complying with permitted uses in the zone. A new pedestrian walkway will encourage foot traffic between Free Street and the existing surface parking lot, while also screening the parking area from view.
