Landscape Architecture Services
Landscape Architecture
Landscape is the fabric that knits together our built environment, transforming performance-oriented infrastructure into human-centered spaces. Trees that provide shade in the summer, scale to our streetscapes, and numerous ecosystem services highlight the potential value of a single landscape element. Thoughtfully arranging these elements can enhance the quality and success of our multidisciplinary projects.
Acorn’s licensed landscape architect provides a variety of landscape architecture services on its public and private projects, including site layout, site analysis, planting design, permitting assistance, watershed planning and restoration, site stormwater and BMP integration, graphic and project illustration, and construction administration and observation services. Climate resiliency and adaptation are a focus on all our projects, and Acorn offers a vertically integrated approach with both in-house landscape architecture services and site and civil design in one office.

Design Approach
Landscape design work begins with site analysis, where the landscape architect, civil engineer and design support staff perform an in-depth review of solar and climatic conditions, existing vegetation, site drainage, utility availability, program requirements, and the regulatory context, among many other considerations. This allows the team to generate site-specific concepts that meet project goals while remaining sensitive to a site’s context.
As a design develops, Acorn produces sketches, diagrams, and plans that communicate design intent and allow stakeholders to actively review and progress the design forward. The resulting landscapes are human-centered spaces that balance the inherent constraints and opportunities of each project site. Hardscape details are well considered with an emphasis on sustainable practices, while plant palettes are selected to be drought tolerant, low-maintenance and evocative of Maine’s natural landscapes.
