Design Engineer

Job description

Acorn Engineering Inc. (Acorn), a growing civil and environmental engineering firm in Portland, Maine, is seeking a qualified Design Engineer. The engineer will be an integral part of the development team and assist through the life cycle of projects.

Responsibilities include:

site design
development of drawings
stormwater management design
coordination with project stakeholders
regulatory permitting
construction administration

Acorn’s current projects include:

downtown revitalization
neighborhood planning
affordable housing through the state
urban infill developments, including the tallest building in Maine
municipal and industrial compliance
permitting for community solar farms
floodplain restoration
watershed restoration

Capabilities and Credentials

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
0-4 years experience with design, permitting and construction administration for various site design projects within Maine
Strong technical and engineering design skills
Proficiency in AutoCad Civil 3D & HydroCAD
Understanding of local, state and federal permitting regulations and applications
Experience with design of stormwater management systems
Valid driver’s license
EI Certification required

Hybrid Work Environment

Employees are provided with a laptop to enable work within our hybrid work model. It’s anticipated the hybrid remote model would include 75% of time in the Portland office and 25% remote.
