Together with the Long Creek Watershed Management District (LCWMD), Acorn assisted with the civil engineering, permitting, and construction oversight services for stormwater BMP retrofits serving a 48-acre urbanized catchment in the Long Creek watershed. The project’s primary objective was to implement stormwater BMP within the catchment to address the currently under performing systems and subsequent water quality concerns including temperature, dissolved oxygen, chlorides, nutrient levels, metal concentrations, and runoff volume. Acorn’s design proposed a gravel wetland BMP to treat and detain much of the stormwater runoff from areas at the Maine Mall, and a modular wetland system to treat a smaller subcatchment area. Additional benefits from the project included the removal of existing non-native / invasive plant species which currently overwhelm the existing stormwater detention area.
